XCEL Public Safety Power Shutoff will impact Monarch Casino Resort Spa
December 19, 2025
BLACK HAWK, Colo. — Xcel Energy has notified the Monarch Casino Resort Spa that it will implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) beginning at 5:00 AM on Friday, December 19, due to extreme winds and critical wildfire conditions across Colorado’s Front Range.
The planned outage is expected to last for the duration of the event and will impact all customers within the City of Black Hawk, including Monarch Casino Resort Spa.
Xcel Energy is currently managing significant PSPS events and widespread weather-related outages following extreme wind events, which affected tens of thousands of customers statewide. While restoration efforts are ongoing in some areas, Xcel Energy has indicated that dangerous weather conditions are expected to persist, necessitating a second precautionary shutoff to reduce wildfire risk.
This announcement is significant for guests and visitors considering travel into the mountains, including those planning to visit Monarch Casino Resort Spa. Travelers should be aware that power will be unavailable during the specified shutoff window, and services and amenities will be affected.
