NEW behind-the-scenes view inside Monarch Casino Black Hawk garage implosion on History Channel this weekend

"Project Impossible" gives viewers the spine-tingling moments before the picture-perfect Monarch Casino Black Hawk implosion

The earth-shaking event that launched the evolution of Monarch Casino Black Hawk makes for appointment-TV viewing this Labor Day Weekend. History channel's new show called "Project Impossible" gives viewers amazing access to the science, engineering, and planning that go into an implosion with absolutely no room for error.

With North Clear Creek on one side of the Monarch Casino parking garage, the current casino and occupied buildings on the other, everything about the December 2016 implosion had to go right. "Project Impossible" takes viewers through the entire process, from the planning stages using incredible 3-D graphics, to never-before-seen footage of the implosion itself.

The implosion of the old parking garage kicked off the incredible transformation of Monarch Casino Black Hawk. The building is more than half-way complete with a new 23-story hotel and spa tower which includes hotel floors, additional casino space, new restaurants and meeting rooms (See Hard Hat Tour videos below).

Monarch Casino is also incorporating many environmentally-friendly features in the new spaces: high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, hot water heaters and plumbing fixtures, LED lighting systems and occupancy sensors that turn lights off when no one is in the room. The new hotel and spa and five restaurants are scheduled to be complete in mid-2019.

Other environmentally-friendly initiatives include:

  • Straws-on-request only throughout the casino, saving more than 180,000 straws per month.
  • Electric charging stations, both Tesla-specific and universal stations for everything from Nissan to BMW.
  • Elimination of plastic plates, cups, and utensils for team member use in the lunchroom.
  • Recycling all cardboard and shredded paper.

“Not only is reducing our carbon footprint and becoming more environmentally friendly the right thing to do, it’s also good business,” says Craig Pleva, Monarch Casino’s general manager. “Our guests and team members have commented about how much they like the changes they’re seeing.”

Inspired by "Modern Marvels," one of History’s most successful series of all time, "Project Impossible" investigates the challenges that face humanity and the projects that can solve them. The show celebrates the engineers, builders and construction professionals transforming our world.
