Black Hawk and Central City casinos add nearly $99 million in gaming taxes to the state economy each year.

About the Monarch Casino Hotel & Spa

In April 2012, Monarch Casino & Resort, Inc. acquire Riviera Black Hawk. Riviera Black Hawk Casino opened in 2000, and is the first casino encountered by visitors arriving from Denver on Highway 119.

It’s estimated that the new resort and spa will add an additional 1,000 new full time positions to the Black Hawk/Central City area.

Construction on the new hotel will start in 6 weeks.

The hotel will take 28 months to complete.

Colorado Casinos generate roughly $100 million in taxes for the state per year, the vast majority from Black Hawk but we know that more than $300 million in gaming revenues are going to other locations like Las Vegas. We want to keep more of that revenue in Colorado. It will translate into more jobs and more taxes helping all our gaming tax funding beneficiaries like the Community Colleges, History Colorado and the Colorado Tourism Office, to name a few.

Monarch Casino Black Hawk hired the world-renowned Mark Loizeaux of Controlled Demolition, Inc. to oversee the implosion. Loizeaux is a leading global expert in demolition whose family has been in the business more than six decades. Notable demolition projects they’ve managed include the iconic Dunes Casino and the Landmark Tower in Las Vegas.

Controlled Demolition, Inc. holds a safety meeting each morning to help protect workers, the public and the environment

Controlled Demolition, Inc. has imploded 8,000 structures around the world over 70 years.

It will take 10-15 seconds to implode the entire building.
Building Wrap/Environmental Protection

Controlled Demolition, Inc. recommended that the garage be wrapped in Geotextile Fabric as an extra layer of protection for the buildings, neighbors and Clear Creek.

The Geotextile Wrap reduces small particles from escaping into the creek or the air

The implosion will create 18,000 tons of debris. 90% of the debris will be recycled and used for backfill material.
Auction to Benefit Gilpin County Food Bank

Monarch Casino Black Hawk auctioned off the ceremonial button push to kick off the garage implosion. The casino matched the $160 winning bid from Tony Carnesi, CEO of Keller Williams - DTC for a total donation of $320 to the Gilpin County Food Bank.
