Monarch Casino Black Hawk team members "Walk to Reno" to get in shape for new hotel opening
Team members are taking millions of steps to get in shape as Monarch Casino Black Hawk’s hotel expansion takes shape
June 12, 2018
Walk to Reno is a healthy virtual step competition for the team members at Monarch Casino Black Hawk as they watch the new 23-story hotel soar into the sky. Getting aroud the property will take a lot more steps as the casino floor doubles in size and adds several new restaurants.
Many of the team members have been working to get in shape since January when the competition began. The goal for this virtual healthy march is in the name: Walk to Reno where Monarch's sister property is located. The trek is 978 miles, or about 1,956,000 steps. There are "legs" of the walk already mapped out from Glenwood Springs through Utah and into Nevada.
The step program is motivating team members to take healthy breaks, get up and walk around during the workday. It also creates a healthy competition and camaraderie. As they travel through their business day, team members look for ways to add in more steps and get to the goal before the deadline.
Five team members have already (virtually) made it to Reno and a number of others are just weeks away. In bad weather, the new Monarch parking garage is the perfect enclosed space to walk and the steps are adding up. Now that the weather is so nice, the trip up Main Street with its great elevation and beautiful flowers is a welcome challenge in the fresh mountain air.
The Walk to Reno challenge continues through July 12th.
