Colorado Doctor Honored at American Cancer Society Champions of Hope Gala for Groundbreaking Work on Breast Cancer
American Cancer Society funded research in Colorado is focusing on why some women develop breast cancer after childbirth
October 20, 2022

Colorado’s own Traci R Lyons, P.h.D., Associate Professor, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus will be honored at the upcoming 10th Annual American Cancer Society Champions of Hope Gala.
Doctor Lyons will be recognized for her research on breast cancer. Her recent work, funded by the American Cancer Society, focuses on what drives invasive breast cancer in postpartum patients. Early identification and prevention of breast cancer are of particular significance to Doctor Lyons, as members of her own family have been impacted by breast cancer.
“Recently pregnant women need to be aware of changes in their breast tissue. Many people believe it happens because you just had a baby, but that’s not always true,” said Dr. Lyons.
Dr. Lyons’ Colorado team has identified a targetable biomarker and developed a novel therapeutic that targets this biomarker that will hopefully be clinically available in the next two years.
Lyons is available for interviews to talk about what postpartum patients need to look for to help in the early detection of breast cancer, and how work being done right here in Colorado is providing promise in the fight against breast cancer.
